New Beginnings

It has been quite a while since I have posted on this site. I wanted to update you on where I am now and what is going on with Extra Special.

First off, I no longer am hosting the site Solid Rock Children's Books. There are various reasons that led me to this decision, but ultimately, I did not have the time to maintain it.  In addition, my family has made a few new life decisions involving relocating and job changes. Fun times! I am no longer working a full time job, just my full time job as being a mom and wife. :) That is full time enough!!!

As for my book, I am excited that they are still selling! I get so excited to see the orders come in or to have people call and tell me they need to purchase one for a baby shower. What a great idea! I love to sign books for others and it warms my heart to think that it might be a blessing to them.

Having said all of that, I have a nice stack of books in my new house that I would love to get rid of to make room for a new shipment! Let me know if you are interested! If you would like to order a book, or two or three ;) then feel free to email me directly at ashcfrey@yahoo.com and I will be sure to get those to you. NO SHIPPING CHARGES and each book is $10. Introducing......Pat Brannon!!!!

I am so excited to announce our new books that we now have available at Solid Rock Children's Book! We currently have 2 books, written by children's author and poet, Pat Brannon!

 Like Dandelion Dust
Some of the new products that we offer include her book that was recently made into a movie, Like Dandelion Dust. This is a heart wrenching book about adoption. Honestly, I have yet to be able to bring myself to watch it. It hits so close to home for us, I cried buckets during the trailer.. so I think I will have to wait to see the movie!! 

 Leaving is Kingsbury's newest series. This book was released in March and is supposedly amazing. Imagine that! I can't wait to read it myself!

 A Time to Embrace is what I am reading right now. It is really good. Talk about a great book on forgiveness and accepting what God hands us. This book is really inspiring and it makes my faith grow thinking about how God does hear our prayers! AWESOME read!

sweet sweet moment

Last night I had the honor of reading to my son, Tristan, my book, Extra Special. You would think by now that I would have read it to him, but every time we read (everyday) he has his favorites that he wants to pick out. I love that he loves to read so when he says no to my suggestions, I just go with it. Well, last night, for the first time, Tristan wanted to read Extra Special! I was really curious as to how he would respond to it. I have never read it to anyone!! I was so happy that he loved it! I think he mostly just like the soccer balls on each page because he kept talking about kicking it in the goal, but that is ok! I will take it! He was really excited about the illustrations.... Thanks, Frank! There is nothing greater than seeing your child excited about books :) It was just a sweet moment for me...

Thank you, Brandermill Church!

Thank you, Brandermill Church for hosting such an amazing "Dare to Dream" event! The event was centered around local Christian authors of all ages, coming together to share  their "story" of how they became writers. I was honored to be able to attend such an event! Since I have just had my first book published, it was awesome to speak with other authors to hear how their journey has been. I got to hear about book talks and signings and promotions etc. It was really awesome! On top of that, after the formal part, they had a meet and greet where  we got to talk with people and sell/sign books. It was really a nice morning.

Thank you so so much to those of you who came out to support the event and especially to those of you who came to support me. It meant to much to see family, high school friends, college friends and current co-workers take their Saturday morning to come out. THANK YOU. As I have mentioned before, "promoting" myself/my book has been hard for me because well, lets face it, you have to sell yourself. That is a tough thing for me to do! But, my family and friends are the BEST. I could not ask for better people in my life. God has blessed me RICHLY though these people, and for that, I am forever grateful.

In HIM I am thankful for all things.... big and little!

Next Book Signing!

The next book signing I will be doing is going to be at the Brandermill Church on February 5th. I am so excited! This is the church that I was raised in and married in. It is a special place that means a lot to me so I am thrilled that they invited me to join them for their first annual book signing event. I will be one of two children's authors and there will be 4 other authors there as well. All of the authors are local. One of the ladies has written tons of books, but I will tell you more after the 5th. I hope you are all able to make it out!

Success!

Saturday was my first ever book signing for Extra Special! As you know, there was a lot of hooplah trying to get the signing to happen due to printing issues and the weather issues we have been having. Josh Simpson was a HUGE help in making this day successful! He got everything set up for me at the Daily Grind, hung posters all over his church and he handed out fliers to all of the children in the children's ministry on several difference occasions. THANK YOU, JOSH!!

The signing itself went really well. I really enjoyed being able to hang out with people and sign their books. The support that I have from friends and family is amazing!

Thank you to all who have supported me in any way! I truly appreciate you more than you know!

My good friend, Jimmy Maddox, is a graphic design goo-ru and he has helped me tremendously to get the look I was going for. I hope that people like it! overly anxious!

I can't stand the anticipation! It feels like Christmas Eve here in my house. I am so anxious to see this huge box fill with my book!!! I will keep you posted on if it actually makes it here or not. According to UPS- scheduled delivery is tomorrow. :) YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!!

Now I get to get ready for my book signing on Saturday Jan 8th! I am nervous but I can't wait to use my new pen :)

Trouble in Paradise

I haven't blogged on the book progress in awhile because I was a bit frustrated and overwhelmed... Add that to Christmas and you know how stress can be!

Let me explain why...

I was originally supposed to have 300 books in my possession before Thanksgiving.  A printing glitch came up and so I had to wait to re-approve everything to be submitted. After that was finally taken care of, I was supposed to have all of the books on the Friday that was 2 weeks before Christmas. PLENTY of time for my book signing and for Christmas presents. Many people had ordered copies for presents and I wanted to make sure that I could get them to those people. They didn't come and then they still didn't come! I was getting SO impatient so I called the company. I tried for 3 days to get a hold of them and I could not get in contact with the right person....

To make a REALLY long story short(er) :)

My amazing husband called and talked to the right person. Not only did he get things moving but he took so much stress off of me. He got them to overnight 50 books to me so I was able to get those paid books to the people who needed them right then. The rest of my books will be here Wednesday. I am SO thankful for him!
The funniest part of the whole thing (not that any other part was funny for me) was that he tracked the UPS many down 35 minutes away from our house so that I could get the books sooner. We were leaving to go out of town and I needed to get them in the mail. He is so good to me.....

So now I still wait for the rest of the 250 books that I have ordered. I have moved the book signing to January 8th at the Daily Grind. I can't wait! 2011 is going to be a good year :)

One last thought.... my awesome husband I was talking about. Do you know what my favorite Christmas present was this year? A beautiful ink pen that he found for me... for my book signings :)

I know I shared these links before, but they were not completed. They have the cover illustration up now. It is wild to see something that I did on there. I am excited about all of this for Frank, too. I am hoping that through this people will fall in love with his illustrations and hire him for other books, too! (He doesn't know I am advertising for him haha)

My First Book Signing

It is official! My first book signing is scheduled and ready to go! I will be at The Daily Grind in Farmville on Saturday, December 18th from 11-2pm signing books! I am very anxious, nervous and excited about this! It should be a good time! I have no expectations, just looking forward to what lies ahead.
Now, I am just praying that God allows of this to flow smoothly. Getting the books shipped has been a BIG challenge and so now I am just praying for no more road blocks and for everything to flow smoothly! I need those books!!! Having said all of that, I am excited that I now have my first copy in my hands. The company sent me one copy for my first book. Then the rest of the shipment is handled separately. I can't wait to have a huge box sitting in my family room ready to sign. Bring it on.... :) Ready or not!
